The tutelary shrine of the Tsuyama castle town. Its portable shrine is one of the three great mikoshi of Japan.
About this place
Tokumori Shrine is a shrine in Miyawakicho, Tsuyama, Okayama Prefecture. It is the chief guardian shrine of the Tsuyama domain. Its shrine rank is prefectural shrine, and today it is cherished by its parishioners as the chief guardian shrine of the Tsuyama urban area. The enshrined deities are the following six. Kunitokotachi no Mikoto, Izanagi no Mikoto, Tsukuyomi no Mikoto, Homutawake no Mikoto Ishikoridome no Kami According to the shrine's records, it was founded in 733 (Tenpyo 5). The shrine site was at first at Odanaka, Tsuyama, but in 1539 (Tenbun 8) a fire destroyed the shrine buildings, treasures and everything else.
