Overview
Its name is said to come from a legend in which a fire was stopped: the mountain where fire halted. A ropeway runs up to the inner shrine.
About this place
Hodosan Shrine (also written in the standard-kanji form) is a shrine at the foot of Mount Hodo in Nagatoro, Chichibu District, Saitama. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine, and it is now a Beppyo Shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. Together with Chichibu Shrine and Mitsumine Shrine, it is one of the Chichibu Three Shrines. An inner shrine (Okumiya) stands on the summit of Mount Hodo. Its deities are the following three. Kamu Yamato Iwarebiko no Mikoto (Emperor Jimmu) Oyamatsumi no Kami
