About this place
Konjoin is a temple in Kamiyamaguchi, Tokorozawa, Saitama. It belongs to the Shingon sect Buzan school; its mountain name is Goanzan and its temple name is Hokoji. The principal image is Senju Kannon, and it is also called Yamaguchi Kannon. It has long been known as a sacred site of Kannon faith. The Kannon statue and Kannon hall are said to have been opened by Kukai in the Konin era (810 - 824), and Konjoin was originally the name of the Kannon hall's betto-ji. It is also said that Nitta Yoshisada prayed at this temple when he attacked Kamakura in the late Kamakura period.
