About this place
Rokusho Shrine is a shrine in Okusacho, Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. It is one of the Six Shrines of Iu. It is the Soja (provincial general shrine) of Izumo Province, and its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It stands on the site of the Izumo provincial capital. Amaterasu Omikami Oonamuchi no Mikoto On the north side of the precincts are the remains of the Izumo provincial capital excavated in 1968, and on the adjoining land to the east of the precincts are part of the remains of the main hall of the provincial government office. Because the shrine's site overlaps the government office, it is thought to have been moved from another location.
