About this place
Suga Shrine is a shrine in Suga, Daito-cho, Unnan, Shimane. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It is said to have begun as the palace Susanoo no Mikoto built after slaying the Yamata no Orochi, and calls itself 'Nihon Hatsu no Miya' (Japan's First Shrine). It is Temple No. 16 of the Izumo Province Shinto-Buddhist Sacred Sites. It is not listed in the Engishiki. Its main deities are Susanoo no Mikoto, his wife Inadahime no Mikoto, and their child Suga no Yuyamanushi Minasarohiko Yashimano no Mikoto (Yashimajinumi no Kami), with Takeminakata no Mikoto, a divided spirit of Suwa Taisha, enshrined as an accompanying deity.
