About this place
Orihime Shrine is a shrine in Nishimiyacho, Ashikaga, Tochigi. It is also called Ashikaga Orihime Shrine after its place name. It is the guardian of Ashikaga textiles, which have a tradition and history of more than 1,200 years, and its beautiful vermilion-lacquered hall on the mid-slope of Mount Orihime is one of Ashikaga's famous sights. There are also ancient burial mound remains. It was founded in 1705 (Hoei 2) by local residents. Later it was enshrined as a subsidiary shrine within the grounds of Yakumo Shrine in Dori 4-chome.
