About this place
Hinomine Shrine is a shrine in Nakatacho, Komatsushima, Tokushima Prefecture. It stands on the summit of Mount Hinomine (elevation 191 m), one of the Three Peaks of Awa, on the north side of the city. The main deity is Oohirume no Muchi no Kami, with Sukunahikona no Kami and Ichikishimahime no Kami enshrined alongside. Its precinct shrine is Funadama no Okami. According to the shrine's records, in 750 (Tenpyo Shoho 2) in the Nara period, Toyono no Mahito Shinohara was appointed governor of Awa. The following year, Tenpyo Shoho 3, an epidemic spread through the province.
