About this place
Inbe Shrine is a shrine in Nikenyacho, Tokushima, Tokushima Prefecture. It is the successor to a shrine listed in the Engishiki (Myojin Taisha); its former shrine rank was Kokuhei Chusha (national medium shrine), and it is now a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. Ame no Hiwashi no Mikoto Ancestral deity of the Awa Inbe clan; according to the Kogo Shui, when Amaterasu Omikami hid in the rock cave, he was led by Ame no Futodama no Mikoto, planted a paper mulberry (kaji) tree, and made white offerings (shiranikite, woven from paper mulberry fibre, also called yu).
