About this place

Kongoji is a Shingon sect Chizan school betsukaku honzan temple in Takahata, Hino, Tokyo. It is known by its popular name Takahata Fudoson. The principal image is Dainichi Nyorai. Its full name is Takahatasan Myooin Kongoji. According to old documents it was founded before the Taiho era (701 - 704). It is also said to have been established by Gyoki Bosatsu in the Taiho era, with Kukai placing the Fudo Myoo here, but according to the temple's tradition it began in the early Heian period, when Ennin (Jikaku Daishi), at the imperial request of Emperor Seiwa, opened a sacred site to protect eastern Japan on the summit of Mount Takahata.
