About this place
Joniji is a Koyasan Shingon sect temple in Asahihoncho, Himi, Toyama. Its mountain name is Asahizan. The principal image is Senju Kanzeon Bosatsu. Founded in the tenth year of Hakuho. 1346 (Jowa 2) - The seven-hall complex of the Ninna era was rebuilt. 1614 (Keicho 19) - Maeda Toshinaga donated a mountain residence. Until the Meiji era it was a prayer site of the former lords, the Maeda family. 1639 (Kan'ei 15) - The halls were destroyed by fire. It has a main hall, founder's hall, Kannon hall, bell tower, Enma hall and Yakushi hall. 1680 (Enpo 8) - The nine-bay main hall was rebuilt. It has a one-bay worship porch with a mukai-karahafu gable and copper-plate roofing.
