About this place
Kozenji is a Soto sect temple in Teppocho, Yamagata. Its mountain name is Tenryuzan. It is known as the family temple of Mogami Yoshiaki. In the Keicho era, Mogami Yoshiaki invited Shunrin Zento, the ninth abbot of Kosenji in what is now Oishida, to found it as his own family temple. The temple land was 250 koku. At first it stood in what is now Nanokamachi (then called Mikkamachi) and was named Keichoji. Mogami Yoshiaki died in 1614 (Keicho 19) and his funeral was held at Keichoji. On that occasion four people, including Sagae Jubeinojo, followed him in death.
