About this place
Kamikura Shrine is a shrine in Shingu, Wakayama Prefecture. It is an auxiliary shrine of Kumano Hayatama Taisha, one of the Three Kumano Shrines. The shrine grounds are part of the nationally designated historic site 'Kumano Sanzan' and part of the World Heritage Site 'Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range'. Kamikura Shrine is an auxiliary shrine of Kumano Hayatama Taisha. It stands on Mount Kamikura (elevation 120 metres), a subsidiary peak of Mount Chihoga in the north-west of central Shingu, and the edge of the precincts drops straight away into sheer cliffs.
