About this place
Churenji is a Shingon sect Chizan school (Shingi Shingon lineage) temple in Oami, Tsuruoka, Yamagata. After the war it was for a time independent as the head temple of the Shingi Shingon Yudonosan school. Its mountain name is Yudonosan. The principal image is Dainichi Nyorai. It is said to have been founded in 833 (Tencho 13) by Kukai (Kobo Daishi), and is the newest of the four temples of the Yudonosan school.
