About this place
Jakushoji is a Tendai sect temple in Tendo, Yamagata. It is also known as Wakamatsu Kannon. Ranked together with Izumo Taisha as "Izumo in the west, Wakamatsu in the east", it is known as a Kannon of matchmaking. In the Muromachi period, faith in the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage spread to eastern Japan as well, and the temple is placed as Temple No. 1 of the Mogami Thirty-Three Kannon pilgrimage.
