About this place
Shibata Shrine is a shrine in Fukui, Fukui Prefecture. It enshrines the Sengoku-period warlord Shibata Katsuie as its main deity, with his wife Oichi as an auxiliary deity. Within the grounds is the Sanshimai Shrine (Three Sisters Shrine), enshrining Oichi's three daughters. The site is said to be the ruins of the main enclosure of Kitanosho Castle, Katsuie's castle, and although the date of its establishment is unknown, there is a stone shrine enshrining Katsuie and Oichi, and it has been protected as a shrine within Fukui Castle, built on the site of Kitanosho Castle.
