Overview
Twenty-seven metres high and two kilometres around, the largest island on the Echizen coast, long held to be a god's island.
About this place
Oshima is an island (uninhabited) in Anto, Mikuni, Sakai, Fukui Prefecture. It is one of the islands on the Echizen coast and the largest on that coast. It is included in Echizen-Kaga Coast Quasi-National Park. Its area is about 10.2 hectares, and the 2 kilometers around it are sea-eroded cliffs. The whole island is made of rhyolite, with well-developed columnar joints like those of the nearby Tojinbo, and platy joints can also be seen. Plants that like a warm climate grow there, such as the sudajii chinquapin, tabunoki and shirodamo.
