About this place
The Katsuyama Castle Museum is a museum in a keep-style building in Heisenji-cho, Katsuyama, Fukui Prefecture. The keep-style building is 57.8 meters tall, the tallest in Japan. It is a concrete replica keep modeled on the Himeji Castle keep; it has no enclosures such as a second or third enclosure or a umadashi, but the moat and castle gates are solidly built. Nine dragons are carved into the stone walls, in reference to the Kuzuryu River flowing through Katsuyama and the dinosaur fossils found in Katsuyama, emphasizing that it is not ordinary castle architecture.
