About this place
Benzaiten Hakuryuo Daigongen is a shrine (a gongen shrine) in Takehara, Eiheiji, Yoshida District, Fukui Prefecture. It is also known as Takehara Benzaiten. It was founded by the monk Taicho in the Yoro era. It is said that Benzaiten was enshrined as part of the temple complex during the heyday of the Tendai-sect Heisenji, but it burned down during the Ikko-ikki uprisings. After the war it was restored by a businessman from Osaka. It is a god of business prosperity. A white snake lives inside the iwakura rock that is the sacred object. It is affectionately called Hebigami-san. One is likely to meet the white snake on the day before a rainy day.
