About this place
A shrine in Otaki-cho, Echizen. An Important Cultural Property of Japan, it enshrines Kawakami Gozen, the god of paper, a rarity in Japan. About 1,500 years ago a princess is said to have taught villagers the art of papermaking, and the people revered the princess as Kawakami Gozen and built Okamoto Shrine. The shrine buildings were built in Tenpo 14 (1843).
