Overview
Where Murasaki Shikibu lived, the one time in her life she left the capital. It has a shinden-style garden.
About this place
Murasaki Shikibu Park in Echizen, Fukui Prefecture. Echizen is regarded as the one time in her life that Murasaki Shikibu lived away from the capital, and the park was made to commemorate it. A shinden-style garden is rare even nationwide; it was designed with precise historical research, and you can experience the world of a Heian picture scroll at real size. The golden statue of Murasaki Shikibu stands facing the capital (Kyoto), and in the line of her gaze is Mt. Hino, called Echizen Fuji.
