A post town on the Saba Road linking Wakasa with Kyoto, which grew from 1589 onward.
About this place
Kumagawa-juku is a post town in Wakasa, Mikatakaminaka District, Fukui Prefecture, on the old Saba Kaido connecting Wakasa and Kyoto. It has been selected as a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings under the name Wakasa Town Kumagawa-juku Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Also, on 24 April 2015 it was certified as a Japan Heritage site as a constituent cultural property of "Wakasa's Cultural Heritage of Travel Linking the Sea and the Capital - Miketsukuni Wakasa and the Saba Kaido."
