About this place
Hirayu Otaki is a waterfall in Hirayu, Okuhida Onsen-go, Takayama, Gifu Prefecture. It has a drop of 64 m and a width of about 6 m. It is a famous waterfall selected as one of 'Japan's 100 Waterfalls' and one of the '50 Famous Waters of Gifu Prefecture'. It is a famous autumn foliage spot, and the autumn leaves of Okuhida Onsen-go were selected among the Hida-Mino 33 Autumn Foliage Selections. In the depth of winter it freezes into an ice waterfall, and every February the ice waterfall is lit up and the 'Hirayu Otaki Frozen Festival' is held.
