About this place
Oze Ukai is cormorant fishing held on the Nagara River at Oze, Seki, Gifu Prefecture, every year from May 11 to October 15. It is held every night except when the water is high. Cormorant fishing on the Nagara River is not held on the mid-autumn full moon, but Oze Ukai can be held even on the mid-autumn full moon because the moon is hidden behind a mountain called Matsuoyama. It is held near the upstream side of Ayunose Bridge in Seki. Of the cormorant fishing on the Nagara River, the Nagara River Ukai in Gifu is famous, but Oze Ukai is also imperial household cormorant fishing, like the Nagara River Ukai, and its cormorant masters hold the official title of Imperial Household Agency Shikibu-shoku Ushō (cormorant master).
