A park on the site of Tsuchiura Castle. It seemed to float on water, which gave it the name turtle castle.
About this place
Kijo Park is a park in Chuo, Tsuchiura, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is one of the Ibaraki Hyakkei (100 Views of Ibaraki). It is a developed part of the main enclosure and second enclosure of Tsuchiura Castle, and is generally regarded as Kijo Park = the site of Tsuchiura Castle. The park's name comes from Tsuchiura Castle, surrounded by a moat, having been called Kijo (Turtle Castle). It is a prefecturally designated historic site (No. 1), and also a park familiar to citizens in Tsuchiura's urban area.
