About this place
Torinokosanjo Shrine is a shrine on the border between Nakagawa, Nasu District, Tochigi Prefecture, and Hitachiomiya, Ibaraki Prefecture. The prefectural border runs through the middle of the approach and the main hall, and the grounds have shrine offices of both Tochigi and Ibaraki Prefectures, each with its own head priest in service. Its main deity is Ame no Hiwashi no Mikoto, and it draws worship as an owl shrine. The grounds cover about 22 ha around Mount Toriko, of which 2 ha is primeval forest.
