About this place
A spring in Koba, Yusui, Kagoshima Prefecture. Selected as one of the 100 Famous Waters of Japan, water from the foot of Mt. Kirishima wells up at about 60,000 tons a day from the sandy bottom of the pond and is used as the town's domestic water. A water-drawing place is developed, and it is a famous spot for cherry blossoms in spring and fireflies in summer. At the Meisui Maruike Thanksgiving Evening in early September, about 1,000 bamboo lanterns are floated.
