Overview
Called the bath of the gods, since it rises beneath the worship hall of Shibi Shrine. In autumn astringent persimmons are steeped in the source for twelve hours to sweeten them.
About this place
A hot spring village in Shibi, Satsuma, Kagoshima Prefecture. In a basin at the southeast foot of Mt. Shibi, with a quiet environment surrounded by hills, it suits recuperation and rest. Because the water wells up from beneath the worship hall of Shibi Shrine, it is also called the Water of the Gods, and inns stand around the public bath. The autumn specialty Aoshi-gaki is made by soaking astringent persimmons in the source water for 12 hours.
