The strait between Akune and Nagashima, one of Japan's three fastest tidal races, reaching eight knots. Otomo no Tabito wrote a poem about it.
About this place
Kuronoseto Ohashi Bridge is a bridge with a road for cars and motorcycles and a pedestrian-only walkway spanning the Kuronoseto (one of Japan's Three Great Rapid Tides) between Akune and Nagashima, Izumi District, Kagoshima Prefecture. It opened to service on April 9, 1974 as a general toll road by Japan Highway Public Corporation, but was opened free of charge on September 21, 1990. The Kuronoseto, or Kuronoseto Strait, is a strait between Wakimoto, Akune, and Nagashima.
