Overview
A shrine on a rock outcrop that juts into the sea.
About this place
A shrine standing on a rocky hill like an island jutting into the sea (Tenjinjima) along Prefectural Route 68 in Tenjincho, Kanoya. It enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning. To reach the worship hall you climb steep steps with the help of a rope, and at high spring tide the sandbar of the approach sinks into the sea and cannot be crossed.
