About this place
A shrine inside Kumamoto Castle enshrining the Sengoku-period warlord Kato Kiyomasa. With the 1871 (Meiji 4) order separating Shinto and Buddhism, it was built between the main enclosure of Kumamoto Castle and Uto Yagura as Kinzan Shrine. In 1874 it was moved to Kyomachi, Kumamoto, and in 1962 it moved to the main enclosure. The Seishoko Festival is held every year on the fourth Sunday of July.
