Overview
An island about four kilometres around off Kamiamakusa, where rebel forces held a strategy meeting during the Shimabara-Amakusa uprising.
About this place
A small island of about 4 km around in the middle of the Ariake Sea, between the Amakusa Islands and the Shimabara Peninsula. About 25 minutes by regular boat from Ehido Port. Because residents of Shimabara and Amakusa gathered here to plan strategy during the Shimabara-Amakusa Rebellion, it is also called Dangojima, and because of its many cats it is also known as Cat Island.
