A church in Amakusa built in 1934, at the heart of the World Heritage village of Sakitsu.
About this place
A heavy Gothic-style Catholic church that is the symbol of the Sakitsu settlement in the Amakusa area. The settlement was registered in July 2018 as a component of the World Cultural Heritage Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki and Amakusa Region. The present building was rebuilt in 1934 (Showa 9) in the time of the French missionary Father Halbout, and the inside has a tatami floor, rare in Japan.
