Overview
A railway relic in Misato, a series of octagonal tunnels from the Yuen railway, closed in 1964.
About this place
A tunnel in Kumamoto Prefecture, one of the remains of the former Kumaen Railway, built as a rockfall shelter. The Kumaen Railway connected Minami-Kumamoto Station (Kumamoto City) and Tomochi Station (now Misato) and was closed in 1964 (Showa 39). The sight of a man-made structure suddenly appearing in the forest is unusual, and it is known as a social-media-worthy spot.
