About this place
Gorogataki is a waterfall in Yamato, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture. One of the Yabe 48 Waterfalls. The water of the Gorogataki River, anciently called the Todoroki River, falls here. About 150 m upstream is the Tsujun Bridge. With abundant water, a drop of 50 m and broad cliffs and plunge pool, it falls over welded tuff of Aso caldera origin. Among the Yabe 48 Waterfalls, it is of the maximum class, similar in scale to Sentaki, Hijiritaki, Koshihayataki and Fukurataki. Together with the Tsujun Bridge, a National Important Cultural Property, it has been made into a park, with promenades developed for strolling around.
