About this place
Shrines called Jishu Jinja fall broadly into the following categories. Shrines built to enshrine the local land deity (jishu-gami) when a shrine or temple was founded. They may be built as auxiliary shrines within the grounds of a shrine, or stand next to a temple. Most Jishu shrines adjacent to temples were originally part of the neighboring temple (a guardian shrine) and became independent through the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the Meiji period. In this case, some places read the name 'Jinushi-jinja'. A shrine in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture.
