About this place
Akame Shijuhattaki is a general name for a series of stepped waterfalls dotted along about 4 km of the Takigawa gorge, a tributary of the Uda River, flowing through Akame-cho, Nabari, Mie Prefecture. It is one of the many "48 Falls" (Shijuhattaki), a general name for the many waterfalls found in Japan. The valley is called the Akame 48 Falls Gorge. The Muro volcanic rock, made of rhyolitic welded tuff, developed vertical joints (columnar joints, etc.) when it cooled, producing many steps in the riverbed.
