About this place
Shichiri Mihama is a beach facing Kumano-nada, stretching from Kumano to Kiho in Mie Prefecture. It lies within Yoshino-Kumano National Park, and has the Shichiri Mihama scenic forest. 'Shichiri' (seven ri) comes from the length of the coast; the coastline, which continues for about 25 km, is the longest gravel beach in Japan. It is known as a scenic spot and has been selected among Japan's Top 100 Beaches and Japan's Top 100 White Sand and Green Pine Beaches. Pine groves planted to protect against strong sea winds continue along it, and in 1983 it was selected among the 100 Natural Sites of Japan to Preserve for the 21st Century.
