A castle site in Tsu. Built in 1580 by Oda Nobukane, it grew afterwards as a castle town.
About this place
The site of Tsu Castle in Mie. Oda Nobukane (Nobunaga's younger brother) built Tsu Castle in 1580 (Tensho 8), and Tsu developed as a castle town thereafter. Todo Takatora was transferred from Imabari in Iyo, Shikoku, and carried out major renovations in 1611 (Keicho 16). Until the Meiji Restoration, Tsu prospered as a castle town of 320,000 koku. Today the reconstructed corner turret's three-story white walls and moss-covered stone walls recall the past.
