Overview
An island in Toba, the setting of Yukio Mishima's novel, with the remains of a wartime observation post.
About this place
A fishing island in the Irago Channel off Toba, Mie, and the setting of Yukio Mishima's novel Shiosai (The Sound of Waves). On the island, places that appear in the story really exist, such as the wartime ruin of the target observation post and the long stone steps of Yashiro Shrine. From late September to early October you can observe the passage of the gray-faced buzzard, and chestnut tiger butterflies also visit. A lap of the island is 4 km, suited to walking.
