About this place
Kamikochi is a mountain scenic area representing the prefecture, located in the western part of Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, on the upper reaches of the clear Azusa River. It belongs to the Nagano Prefecture side (all within Matsumoto) of the southern Hida Mountains (Northern Alps). It is part of Chubu-Sangaku National Park and is designated a national cultural property (Special Place of Scenic Beauty and Special Natural Monument / natural protection area).
