About this place
Tsumago-juku is the 42nd post town of the Nakasendo (-> the Sixty-nine Stations of the Nakasendo). It is one of the eleven Kiso post towns on the Kiso Kaido (Kisoji). It lies in the Kiso River basin, on the east bank of the Araragi River, a tributary of the Kiso River. It now belongs to Nagiso, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture. Today, together with the neighboring Magome-juku (formerly Yamaguchi Village, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture, now Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture) and the historic sites of the old Nakasendo crossing Magome Pass, it is a leading tourist attraction of the Kisoji, visited by many travelers, including foreign visitors.
