About this place
Hirugami Onsen is a hot spring struck during tunnel construction for the Japanese National Railways Nakatsugawa Line, near Achi Village, Shimoina District, Nagano Prefecture. A legend remains that there was a hot spring before then too, but it is not certain. As of 2020 (Reiwa 2), Hirugami Onsen obtains hot spring water from multiple source wells. All of these source wells are on the north side of the Hirugami fault, on the right bank of the Achi River. The pH at the source wells is in all cases above pH 9.
