About this place
The Saku City Tenrai Memorial Hall is an art museum specializing in calligraphy in Saku, Nagano Prefecture. In 1968, a monument reading "Birthplace of Hidai Tenrai" was erected at the birthplace of the calligrapher Hidai Tenrai by volunteers of the then Mochizuki Town and the Tenrai Association, and momentum grew for building a memorial hall, which opened on 21 June 1975. On 26 September of the same year it was approved as the first registered museum specializing in calligraphy. It holds and displays works brushed by Hidai Tenrai, and works by his wife Hidai Shokin and by artists who were his disciples.
