About this place
Kairyuo-ji is a Shingon Ritsu sect temple in Hokkejikitamachi, Nara, Nara Prefecture. Its mountain name is Saho-yama. The principal image is the Eleven-Headed Kannon. Because it was built at the northeast corner of the Empress's Palace of Empress Komyo (the site of Fujiwara no Fuhito's residence), it has the alternate name Sumidera (Corner Temple). Kairyuo-ji is located east of the Heijo Palace site, adjacent to the northeast of Hokke-ji, known as the head provincial convent (Sokokubunniji). The block containing Hokke-ji and Kairyuo-ji was formerly the residence of Fujiwara no Fuhito.
