Overview
The centre of Fujiwara-kyo, to which the capital moved in 694 — the first true walled capital in Japan.
About this place
A palace site in Takadono-cho, Kashihara, Nara. The Fujiwara Palace lay at the center of Fujiwara-kyo, the first full-scale capital built in Japan on the model of Chinese capitals, and the capital was moved there in 694 (Jito 8). The remains of the inner palace and the Daigokuden hall survive; the area is now open fields with a platform at the Daigokuden site. You can see Mt. Amanokagu to the east, Mt. Unebi to the west, and Mt. Miminashi to the north.
