A shrine in Sakurai honouring Fujiwara no Kamatari, with a wooden thirteen-storey pagoda.
About this place
Tanzan Shrine is a shrine in Tonomine, Sakurai, Nara Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was Bekkaku Kanpeisha, and it is now a Beppyo Shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines.
Before the separation of Shinto and Buddhism it was a powerful Shinto-Buddhist syncretic temple called Tonomine Myoraku-ji. In the Sakurai City history and culture plan, the lecture hall built as a place of worship is called Myoraku-ji, while historical descriptions use 'Tonomine.'
