About this place
Tsukioka Onsen is a hot spring in Shibata, Niigata Prefecture. It is known for its weakly alkaline, emerald-green sulfur water, and its content of hydrogen sulfide ions (HS-) is the highest in Japan. The address where the hot spring is located is also Tsukioka Onsen. It is a hot spring area representing Niigata Prefecture and ranks every year among Japan's 100 Best Hot Springs (in fiscal 2024 it ranked 18th in Japan in the overall ranking and 13th for spring quality). There is a hot spring town made up of inns and hotels (13 facilities are listed on the Tsukioka Onsen Tourist Association website) and a shopping street.
