About this place
A museum in Niigata that preserves and opens to the public the former large residence of the Ito family, great landowners of Echigo. On a vast site of 8,800 tsubo are the main house, a large hall, tea rooms and storehouses, and you can see a pond-and-stroll garden by the garden master Tanaka Taiami and art objects of successive heads of the family. In the courtyard is a large wisteria more than 150 years old, which blooms from late April to early May.
