About this place
A shrine in Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture, which enshrines Uesugi Kenshin, with the deity's spirit divided from Uesugi Shrine in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture. It was founded in Meiji 34 (1901) by Ogawa Sumiharu, the father of the children's story writer Ogawa Mimei. The neighboring Kasugayama Shrine Memorial Hall displays Kenshin's relics and materials, and there are also a stone monument of a poem by Ogawa Mimei and stone statues themed on his fairy tales.
