About this place
Bijinbayashi (Beauty Forest) is a forest of beech and other trees spreading across Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture. On a hill of about 3 hectares, about 3,000 slender trees with few spreading branches and trunks of even thickness stand in rows, and from this sight they were likened to beautiful women, giving it its name. Beech trees about 100 years old grow thickly on the hilly ground, and because of their beauty it has become a tourist spot; at the entrance there are a parking lot, a tea house, a farm produce direct-sales shop and more. About 100,000 people visit each year.
